Material Description of the “Saren” Target

Historically, the Saren target was traditionally made of wool felt. In certain regions, horsehair was also once a primary material used in its production. Today, this horsehair-based craftsmanship has nearly disappeared; only a few artisans in the Hulunbuir region are still capable of making targets using this traditional method.

With increased frequency of use and growing demand, the materials and production techniques of the Saren target have continued to evolve. Modern Saren targets are no longer made entirely of wool felt; instead, industrial felt and non-woven fabric are now used as the primary materials. These materials are hand-stitched in multiple layers to form a composite structure, enhancing durability and making the targets better suited to large-scale production and market supply.

Our products are handmade by officially recognized inheritors of intangible cultural heritage. While preserving the traditional functionality of the Saren target, we have also improved its durability and extended its service life.
